Props to whoever did the Kindle logo for Amazon, it pretty much looks exactly like something i threw into the scraps section of my old Deviantart account in oh…2003. Way to go Mr. Original.
Honestly, when i came up with that combo of silhouette, bright gradients, rolling wavey hills and nature themes, i had no idea eight years later it would be ripped off quite so much. There must be literally hundreds of clones of those early works i did now, and dozens of ‘Change of Seasons’ copycat pieces. That is exactly the kind of unoriginality and blatant ripping off that made me throw in the towel in the first place. The Polish Git of an artist who trumped around DA ripping me off and then accusing people of ripping ‘his’ style, can go suck an Egg.
I have so many unfinished, almost complete, pieces sitting on my hard drive that i could probably release a whole new gallery of things. Then i remember the kind of people that frequent the online art scene, most of whom don’t have an original thought in their ‘artistic’ minds. Nothing is completely original these days, of course not, but when you see people marrying all the elements you did in their art, even down to the general theme, it gets a bit much.
So, if you’re thinking about getting into the online art scene, be aware that if you’re even remotely good, you’ll find yourself looking at messages about your art being found on some such site, or a near copy being done by someone else (almost always with no credit) and, in some cases, it being sold for profit without your knowledge. Also, people writing to you wanting to use your art, or for you to make them something…WILL expect it done for free most of the time.
